Stated preference has proved an excellent means of extending our understanding or travellers' preferences and values. Experiments involving the comparison of alternative scenarios have proved an efficient method for collecting data but the modality of collection of the preference between those scenarios has remained an issue.

Following questions relating to a recent proposal for bus passenger priorities for London Buses, Accent and HCG undertook a research project to identify whether the results obtained from a stated preference experiment with a '101- point' scale are compatible with a bi-polar stated preference 'choice' method.
