Abstract

On 30 th March 1998, Les Courriers de I'lle de France (CIF), a subsidiary of the VIA CARIANE Group, launched the experimental Roissy CDG Allobus Service in partnership with Syndicat des Transports Parisiens (STP) and the local authorities in the Roissy area for an initial period of 3 years.

The service links communes near the airport with the Roissy CDG employment zone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is bookable by telephone at least one hour in advance. The potential frequency of the service is 2 departures per hour.

The aim of this paper is to set out the various stages which led up to the introduction of the Roissy CDG Altobus Service and the advantages in terms of marketing and operating flexibility provided by a detailed knowledge of its customers and their movements.
