Abstract

This paper presents some results from the SMARTEST project. It was funded by the European Commission Transport Directorate DGVII in the Fourth Framework Programme. The project aimed to improve road traffic micro- simulation models. In one project task, three micro-simulation tools were used to model a road network in Leeds. Comparisons were made between the outputs of each of the tools and data collected from the real road network.

The three micro-simulation tools used in this project task were:

* DRACULA - developed by ITS, University of Leeds,

* NEMIS - developed by Mizar Automazione, Turin and

* AIMSUN2 - developed by UPC, Barcelona.

The two main issues addressed were:

* the ability of each of the tools to model all the features found in the test network,

* the accuracy of the outputs of the models
