Abstract

Mar del Plata is the main city of General Pueyrredon County, allocated at the Atlantic Ocean side. The county has an extension of 1453 km 2, being this way one of the smallest counties in Buenos Aires Province. The urban sector occupies 70 km 2. Most of its people, nearly 700.000 inhabitants, live in the own city and its surroundings. In high season (December - April), population is tripled, and in the rest of the year meetings, forums, sport events, long week ends and climate changes make transport demand to fluctuate in a very important way.

Another fact that has to be considered is that the city presents changing characteristics from season to season: the opening or closing of places for amusement, night clubs, factories, machine shops, etc. in different areas requires immediate (on-line) changes.

This structure has generated the need of an urban and suburban transport system that has today 9 companies and 36 lines that travel by the city until the limits with other counties. In order to accomplish this, tours are oriented by the avenues and along the seaside.
