Abstract

Services for senior customers regarding the mobility chain from their home locations to Frankfurt Airport

Short abstract:
The RMV takes part in a research project analysing the situation of high age customers on their way to the airport and identifies additional services offerings for them as a target group.

Abstract:

The demographical change in Germany has impact on RMV as the primary mobility service provider in the Frankfurt RheinMain Area. Declining population also leads to an increased share of elderly people using public transport services. In addition we assume a quality shift in this age group. In general, our senior people feel much younger than their biological age and they also have intensified their leisure and travel patterns.

RMV started a market research project to obtain insights about the behaviour and mobility patterns of elderly people in order to get ideas for advanced PT-service needs on the way to the airport. Assumption is that a plain age-based discrimination is not sufficient. Hypotheses for the market research were:
1. Elderly people have different mobility biographies.
2. Elderly people have different media competencies and media usage behaviours.
3. Senior citizens have different support and travel assistance needs.

The market research included two stages:
1. Moderated group discussions re. conservative resp. innovative service ideas
2. Travel accompanies to observe potential obstacles and problems.

At the ETC 2014 I would like to present the study as well as the service ideas generated of it.
