This paper describes the system of freight denzmd models obtained ~thln the framework of research aiming to develop a Decision Support System for transport poficies. The projects are being flrmneed by the Italian Ministry of Transportation (Cascetta, 1996; Cascetta et al,.1996a) and by the National Research Coundl (CNR) in the 2 ne Fin~li74~d Trmmportnttnn Research (PFI'2) Program (Nu~zolo et al, 1995).
