Abstract

In February 1997 GIBB Ltd. was commissioned by the European Union's Phare multicountry programme, in conjunction with the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic, to carry out a study of rail and combined transport on Pan European Corridor VI and related corridors. This study has now to a large extent been completed and its findings will be used as the basis of this paper.

The study is one of a number of regional and corridor transport studies that have and are being carded out as part of the Phare multi-country programme. These studies include the Balkan Transport Study (GIBB), Rail Corridor IV (ITALFERR), Connections to Rail and Combined Transport Corridor IX (GIBB) and Danube Corridor Development Plan (Keinbaum).
