Abstract

This paper presents a summary of the results of a research project carried out under the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions' (DETR's) SEEDCORN programmel which aimed to assess awareness of and attitudes to the idea of employer transport plans (ETPs)2 among large British employers (those with more than 100 employees).

The research consisted of a UK-wide postal questionnaire followed up by two focus groups with employers in Central Scotland. It is an important and timely project because, while there is considerable and growing interest in ETPs from transport professionals, little is known about the attitudes of employers to the concept, and yet it is they who would be ultimately responsible for implementing such measures.
