Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to outline the current issues relating to changes in the UK National Health Service ( NI-IS ) and the impact these changes are having on the transport and travel needs of staff, patients and visitors in light of the latest Green Transport Policies being encouraged by national and local government.

The case is presented for hospitals to be treated as a special case with consideration of circumstances unique to their operation that are not found at locations such as offices, schools or shopping centres. Whilst introducing green travel to hospital sites is encouraged, it is essential to understand these cirenmstances so that solutions can be tailored to best suit the needs and requirements of those affected. This approach is most important if the solutions are to be effective and people are to reduce usage of the ear as their mode of travel to the hospital.
